Lagun Table Install Guide for Vans

By Andrew Underhill

A Lagun table is one of the smartest space-saving choices for van interiors. It’s a pedestal-based table that can mount to either of two posts, pivot, and create flexible dining and work surfaces depending on your needs. If you’re building a van or upgrading an existing one, here’s everything you need to know about Lagun tables and how to install them.

What Is a Lagun Table?

A Lagun table is a modular dining table system designed for RVs and vans. The base consists of two posts, and the tabletop can mount to either post, allowing you to swivel it to different positions. When you don’t need the table, you can collapse it or swing it to the side, freeing up floor space.

The system is lightweight, sturdy, and takes up less floor space than traditional dinette setups.

Why Lagun Tables Work in Vans

Space efficiency: You eat at the table when you need to. When you don’t, it’s out of the way. Compare that to a fixed dinette that claims floor space 24/7.

Flexibility: You can position the table next to your bed for a bedside surface, angle it toward a bench for dining, or tuck it against the wall. The same table serves multiple purposes.

Quality: Lagun tables are solid. They don’t wobble or feel flimsy. The engineering is intentional.

Cost: A Lagun table costs less than custom cabinetry or a built-in dinette. For a Standard or Premium van build, it’s an excellent value.

Aesthetic: Modern vans look good with Lagun tables. They’re clean, functional, and less “RV kitsch” than some alternatives.

Choosing the Right Lagun Table

Lagun makes several models:

Standard Lagun pedestal table: The classic two-post system with a single tabletop. Works in most vans.

Folding Lagun table: Posts fold down completely, giving you total floor space when not in use. Best for tight builds or multi-purpose spaces.

Different sizes: Tabletops range from 24”x32” (compact) to 36”x48” (full dining size). Your van space determines what fits.

For most van builds, a standard Lagun with a 28”x40” or 30”x42” tabletop is the sweet spot. It’s big enough for actual meals but doesn’t dominate the space.

Installation Requirements

Installing a Lagun table requires:

  1. Clear floor space: You need a 4-5 foot by 3-4 foot area to place the posts and table. Carpet or rubber flooring should be installed first.

  2. Structural support: The posts need solid mounting. Some installations screw into the floor directly. Others use mounting plates attached to the van floor or bolted to the frame.

  3. Height consideration: The tabletop height should allow comfortable seating. Standard dining height is 30 inches. If you’re mounting next to a raised bed or bench seating, you might adjust this.

  4. Clearance: Make sure the table doesn’t interfere with doors, cabinet access, or walkways when mounted or in use.

Step-by-Step Installation

Step 1: Prepare the space

Clear the area where the table will be. Ensure the flooring is finished (we typically do vinyl or wood flooring before installing furniture). Mark where the posts will go.

Step 2: Mark post locations

Determine the optimal post spacing. Standard Lagun tables use posts roughly 28-36 inches apart, depending on the tabletop size. Mark these locations clearly.

Step 3: Install mounting plates or bolts

Screw or bolt the mounting hardware to the van floor at the marked locations. Use stainless steel or galvanized hardware to avoid rust. Make sure everything is level.

Step 4: Install posts

Attach the posts to the mounting hardware. Ensure they’re vertical and secure. The posts should feel solid without any flex.

Step 5: Mount the tabletop

Slide the tabletop onto the posts according to the Lagun instructions. Test that it seats properly and rotates smoothly.

Step 6: Test and adjust

Open and close the system a few times. The tabletop should move freely but not be loose. Adjust hardware if needed.

Step 7: Seal and secure

Apply sealant around any bolts or fasteners that penetrate the floor to prevent water intrusion. Use stainless steel washers to distribute the load.

Installation Challenges and Solutions

Challenge: Uneven van floor

Vans aren’t always perfectly level. If the floor is uneven, the posts might not be vertical.

Solution: Use shims under the mounting plates to level them before bolting down.

Challenge: Mounting to metal frame

If you’re bolting to the van frame rather than flooring, you need to locate solid frame points and drill accurately.

Solution: Get help positioning. Use a drill press or guide to ensure perpendicular holes. Tap threads if you’re using threaded inserts.

Challenge: Limited space for movement

If the table is too large for the space, it might interfere with walls or fixtures when mounted.

Solution: Choose a smaller tabletop size or consider a folding Lagun model that collapses completely.

Challenge: Wobble or instability

If the table feels loose, something isn’t bolted tight.

Solution: Check all hardware. Tighten mounting bolts and hardware. Ensure posts are truly vertical. Test the tabletop for cracks or damage.

Cost and Timeline

A Lagun table system with installation typically costs:

  • Tabletop and base: $300-$600 (varies by size and finish)
  • Installation materials and hardware: $50-$100
  • Labor (if professionally installed): $150-$300

Total: roughly $500-$1,000 depending on complexity.

Installation time is usually 2-4 hours for a straightforward setup.

Where Lagun Tables Work Best

Lagun tables are ideal for:

  • Van builds with flexible space needs
  • Situations where you want dining and work surfaces without eating square footage
  • Builds where you’re choosing between a dinette and open space
  • Vans where you want modern aesthetics over traditional RV style

They’re less necessary if you have a large bench seat that already serves as dining space or if your van prioritizes bedroom space over living space.

Alternatives to Lagun Tables

If a Lagun doesn’t fit your situation:

Built-in dinette: Custom seating with integrated table. Takes more space but feels more permanent.

Wall-mounted folding table: Minimal floor footprint, mounts to the wall, folds when not in use.

Bench seating with removable table: A bench seat with a tabletop that slides in and out.

No table: Some van builds skip formal dining entirely. You eat on your lap or outside.

Our Experience Installing Lagun

We’ve installed Lagun tables in dozens of builds. They work well in Standard and Premium conversions. The engineering is solid, they look good, and customers love the flexibility.

Most installations are straightforward. The only common issue is rushing the leveling and mounting, which leads to slight wobble. Take time getting the posts vertical and bolts tight, and you’re fine.
