Why Build a RAM ProMaster Camper Van?

The RAM ProMaster offers the widest interior of any full-size van — 75.6" wall-to-wall. That extra width changes the feel of a conversion: east-west beds with room to walk around them, wider counters, and more elbow room. Add the lowest entry price and a Super High Roof that reaches 7'2", and the ProMaster is the best value build for customers who want to maximize space per dollar.

Widest Interior

6'3.6" wall-to-wall — the widest of all three platforms. That extra width changes the feel of a conversion. You can fit a queen bed with room to walk around it.

Lowest Entry Price

Used ProMasters run $18K–$30K — the most affordable entry point. That savings goes straight into the build.

Low Load Floor

The ProMaster sits ~21" off the ground vs ~28–30" on an RWD Sprinter or Transit. Step-in is easier, loading is easier, daily entry adds up.

Super High Roof

86" (7'2") of interior height — 10" taller than the standard High Roof. The tallest stock interior of any conversion van. Current Sprinter and Transit don't offer this.

Affordable Maintenance

Gasoline engine servicing runs $100–$200. Parts from any RAM/Dodge dealer. No diesel complexity, no Mercedes labor rates.

ProMaster Conversion FAQ

How much does a RAM ProMaster van conversion cost?

A custom RAM ProMaster van conversion typically costs between $30,000 and $120,000+ depending on the build tier and systems involved. A basic build with insulation, electrical, and a bed platform starts around $30K. Mid-range builds with full plumbing, solar, and a kitchen run $50K–$80K. Premium off-grid builds push past $100K. The ProMaster's lower base vehicle price means more of your budget goes straight into the build. We break this down on our ProMaster conversion cost page.

Is the RAM ProMaster good for a camper van?

The RAM ProMaster is a strong choice for a camper conversion — especially if budget or interior space is driving your decision. At 75.6" wall-to-wall, it's the widest of any van platform. That extra width means you can fit a queen bed east-west with room to walk around it. The load floor sits ~21" off the ground (vs ~28–30" on an RWD Sprinter), making step-in and loading noticeably easier. And if you want maximum standing room, the Super High Roof reaches 86" (7'2") — no other platform offers that stock.

Does the ProMaster have a Super High Roof option?

Yes. The ProMaster Super High Roof adds 10 inches of interior height over the standard High Roof, bringing it to 86" (7'2"). That's the tallest stock interior of any conversion van you can buy new. The current Sprinter (2019+) and Transit only offer Standard and High Roof configurations. For tall customers — or anyone who wants real standing room after insulation — the Super High Roof is a meaningful advantage that no other platform matches out of the box.

What ProMaster camper van layouts work best?

The ProMaster's extra width opens up layout options that don't work as well in narrower vans. A side-to-side queen bed with a walkway is popular with couples. The 159" extended wheelbase gives room for a galley kitchen, wet bath, and dedicated sleeping area. The 136" standard wheelbase works well for more compact adventure builds. Check out our ProMaster interior ideas page for layout inspiration.

How does the ProMaster compare to the Sprinter for a van conversion?

The ProMaster is wider (75.6" vs 70"), cheaper to buy and maintain, and sits lower to the ground (load floor ~21" vs ~28–30" on an RWD Sprinter). The Sprinter has a proven diesel drivetrain documented at 250,000–450,000+ miles, stronger resale value, and available AWD. If budget and interior space are your priorities, the ProMaster wins. If longevity and resale matter more, the Sprinter is the better choice. We've built on both platforms and break it down in our Sprinter vs. ProMaster comparison.

How long does a ProMaster van conversion take?

A typical ProMaster van conversion takes 8 to 16 weeks depending on build complexity. Basic builds with electrical and a bed platform run 8–10 weeks. Mid-range builds with full plumbing and cabinetry take 10–14 weeks. Premium builds with diesel heating, full electrical, wet bath, and custom cabinetry run 14–16+ weeks. The flat floor can speed up the early stages compared to other platforms. See our full build timeline page.
